M&A driving isolated biotech outperformance. Ripple effects of the Apogee acquisition has disproportionately

boosted I&I biotechs with a pipeline-in-a-product. Our favorite M&A target is ORKA.

We are seeing a textbook mismatch between biotech outperformance relative to broader healthcare & the current

macro backdrop. Classically, the macro setup gives much reason to believe that biotech should be weak, given the

growing expectation of more restrictive rate policy and fears that risky capital would flee biotech for AI (especially

the SpaceX IPO). However, XBI is pushing toward 2021 highs and technicals suggest that momentum shall persist.

"We think the group (biotech) will continue higher from here and any weakness should be seen as an opportunity"

(see Ginsberg report), especially given past seasons where July-Aug tend to be the best months for biotech sector

outperformance. On a more fundamental level, M&A tailwind is the primary structural explanation for this isolated

biotech outperformance.

The ripple effects of the Apogee deal (see report) appear to have cast a positive halo across the space and has

disproportionately benefited I&I biotechs with a 'pipeline-in-a-product.' Absolute returns across a few baskets in

the last 1-week return signal that I&I biotechs with a pipeline-in-a-product (+14%) are now perceived as better M&A

candidates relative to I&I-non-pipeline-in-a-product (+3.4%), oncology (+6.6%) and CNS (+10%). Further, our quant
