access costs by over 116% within five years—starting with a 30% hike in year one, followed by

smaller annual increases. This change could significantly boost Telefónica’s annual revenue

from €130m to around €273m. However, competitors have strongly opposed the move, warning

that it would sharply increase their operating costs, potentially impacting market competition

and pricing. Industry players have already escalated their concerns to Brussels, and while

discussions are ongoing, a final decision is expected by late 2026 or into 2027, with a formal

consultation process still to follow. Source: ADSLZone (30 June 2026)

Virgin Media Business launches symmetric fibre broadband plans

Virgin Media Business (VMB) has officially introduced new full fibre (FTTP) broadband packages

for small business customers, delivering symmetric speeds powered by its XGS-PON network.

The refreshed portfolio includes five tiers ranging from 200Mbps up to 2Gbps, marking VMB’s

move to align more closely with its consumer offerings. Customers will receive a Hub 5x router

and can opt for static IP addresses, enhancing suitability for business use cases. However,

availability is limited to areas served by Virgin’s newer FTTP infrastructure (including nexfibre),

while customers on the legacy HFC network remain capped at 1Gbps speeds under older plans.

All packages come with a £75 installation fee and a £25 activation charge, excluding VAT. We do

see the potential for increased B2B competition threatening Openreach Ethernet volumes over

time- something that has yet to occur materially. Source: ISPReview (30 June 2026)
