Markets welcome elections results in LatAm
The trend toward electing right-leaning administrations appears set to continue in Peru
and Colombia, based on preliminary results. In Colombia, Abelardo De la Espriella inherits
a large fiscal deficit and proposes fiscal adjustment on the back of expenditure cuts. In
Peru, Keiko Fujimori will have strong presence in Congress, and we are bullish on
economic growth. Tight electoral results could complicate governability.
The end of the pink wave?
Ten out of the last twelve presidential elections in LatAm have gone to the right. Politics
will remain a key macro driver across the region.
