IBM and OpenAI Bring Frontier AI to Cyber Defense
NYSE: IBM | USD 252.22 | Outperform | Price Target USD 300.00
Sentiment: Neutral
What's changed: IBM has joined the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, a partnership aimed at deploying frontier AI
capabilities within enterprise security workflows to combat machine-speed threats. Building on Project Lightwell, a previously
announced initiative supported by a $5 billion commitment from IBM and Red Hat, IBM has launched a new application security
service that leverages OpenAI's cyber capabilities to identify and validate software vulnerabilities with greater speed and precision.
The service operates through IBM Consulting Advantage, IBM's AI platform for delivering consulting services, connecting client
environments to advanced AI in a read-only, governed manner. The new application security service is available today, with further
integrations planned as part of the program. The service is delivered as a managed, enterprise-ready offering, allowing clients to
start with focused evaluations and scale to continuous monitoring over time.
Our view: We like the announcement as IBM continues to invest prudently in security by focusing on logical adjacencies to its
core competencies like Lightwell around open-source and this most recent announcement to secure application environments.
We continue to think that management has shown increased focus around its core pillars of AI and hybrid cloud with investments
focusing on the intersection of the two themes.
