Yesterday, Statistics Canada reported that the IPPI rose 1.2% m/m in May and 13.6% y/y,•
marking continued upward momentum driven by supply chain disruptions and higher energy,
chemical and metal prices. Chemical products surged, and gasoline prices supported energy
gains. The RMPI increased 0.7% m/m and 33.4% y/y, led by crops and metal ores, while crude
energy prices edged lower after prior spikes. Despite the monthly dip, energy prices remained
elevated due to geopolitical tensions. Overall, inflation pressures persisted across industrial
goods and raw materials, with strong y/y increases in fuels and metals offset partly by declines
in some agricultural products and natural gas.
On the macro front, Statistics Canada will release April Retail Sales data tomorrow, and May•
inflation data on Monday.
