NMRA: Navacaprant Failure Disappointing, But Not Entirely Unexpected; Still See Promise In Rest Of Pipeline
he program, NMRA is also announcing a ~35% workforce reduction expected to generate ~$10M in
annualized cost savings (with ~$2M in one-time restructuring charges); this will extend the cash runway into 3Q27, though also
means it will be important for the company to successfully progress their other programs near term like NLRP3 '215, V1a antagonist
'511, and M4 PAM '898, where we see more promise in aggregate, particularly for the NLRP3. We remain constructive on NMRA's
NLRP3 inhibitor, NMRA-215, in cardiometabolic disease (obesity), which we view as a potentially differentiated opportunity; the
company is completing a repeat 13-week rat tox study mid-2026, with a program update expected alongside 2Q26 results in
August, and a clinical study initiation now targeted for year-end 2026 — slightly ahead of earlier expectations. The key near-
term milestone is resolving those preclinical tox findings, which we believe is potentially achievable (company noted that their
investigation has revealed potential commonalities among the rats where tox was observed, suggesting a clean repeat study could
enable a cleared IND).
BOTTOM LINE: Discontinuation of navacaprant, while always viewed as a very high-risk program, does remove some optionality
around a large, late-stage opportunity, though with promise remaining in the rest of the early-stage pipeline, any excessive stock
weakness could provide a particularly interesting entry point for a revamped go-forward story. With the earlier-stage pipeline
starting to mature, "Act 2" for NMRA should be better.
