According to a research ran by klavi and EY (see here), Asian marketplaces (inc.

Shopee, Temu, TikTok Shop and Shein) already account for 78% of retail-related

search volume in Brazil, while incumbents such as Amazon and MELI, share the

remaining 22%. As per the research, over the past year, traditional retailers saw

their market share compress from 67.5% to 58%, while Asian players expanded from

32% to 41.5%. The competitive edge of Asian platforms stems less from price alone

and more from purchase frequency (0.97 transactions per user/month vs. 0.65 for

traditional players), despite operating at a significantly lower average ticket (R$84

vs. R$213). Our take: This is in line with Asian players' investments in the country,

that have been increasing competitive pressure.
