WeChat's A2A Shows Why Internet Platforms
are LT AI Winners
WeChat's A2A integration with 5 Chinese smartphone (SP) OEMs could
catalyze the monetization of AI on SP. Unlike GUI agent's phone 'hijacking'
approach, A2A enables secure, collaborative agent interactions, allowing
users to carry out transactions by talking to their SP. SP OEMs could
become "user intent routers" and share monetization with little hardware
upgrade; WeChat will truly become an AI OS LT. BABA could follow suit, but
Doubao SP will likely fade out.
WeChat to integrate with major local SP agents via A2A. Tencent’s WeChat initiated a
collaboration with five main Chinese SP OEMs: Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, OPPO, and vivo, to roll
out Agent-to-Agent (A2A) capabilities. Early deployments on devices such as Honor 500 Pro
allow users to perform core WeChat functions via select SP's native AI assistants. Yesterday,
WeChat opened its AI ecosystem to external developers, allowing third-party mini-programs
to turn their functionalities as SKILLs, so that WeChat AI (still under development) could fulfill
user intents in various mini-programs (exhibit 2). Moreover, JD and Tencent announced a
strategic partnership to integrate JD’s retail supply chain and logistics fulfillment capabilities
with WeChat.
A2A is superior to GUI Agent. This is similar to the A2A framework (AppFunctions) proposed
by GOOG in 2025.. It is totally different from the GUI (Graphical User Interface) agent in
ByteDance’s Doubao phone. GUI agent requires deep OS-level integration to "read" the screen
and simulate human clicks and swipes to operate apps. This triggers severe security risks
