The PMI data out last Friday showed another positive sign in the economy, 7065

which provides some intrigue ahead of the Bank of Canada's rate decision 60

that a rate hike could be used to combat inflation, but the odds, in our view, are 50

What you need to know:

The seasonally adjusted Ivey PMI rose to an eight-month high of 58.2 from 57.7 in April. The•

reading signalled continued expansion across the economy. Inflation pressures intensified,

as the adjusted prices index increased to 78.0 from 76.6, pointing to higher costs for

businesses. The employment component eased slightly to 54.3, indicating slower but still

positive job growth. The unadjusted PMI dipped marginally to 61.3 from 61.5, remaining firmly

in expansionary territory.
