JEF@ADA26: Our Thoughts on T1D Updates
Related to SABS/ SANA
We note updates on the T1D space at ADA26 from company data updates, KOL
panels, and symposiums on the evolving landscape. Key data updates were
from: 1) immunotherapies designed to help delay progression of T1D through
beta cell preservation and 2) cell therapies designed as a functional cure. 2026
is poised to be a pivotal yr for the T1D space as SANA and IPSC both aim to file
INDs for their cell Tx in '26 and VRTX works to file their BLA for VX-880 in '26.
Bottom line. ADA26 had a notable number of data updates in T1D, which we take to signal an
increasing interest and focus from the industry on this historically underserved disease space. As
with ADA25, there continued to be interest and data for therapies that aim to preserve beta cell
function for recently diagnosed pts, w/ notable data updates this yr from SABS (SAB-142, humanized
ATG), SNY (teplizumab, aCD3), Cour Pharmaceuticals (CNP-103/ CNP-T1D). However, while ADA25
data largely surrounded products for early onset T1D to help delay progression of disease vs
treating disease, there was more at ADA26 about functional cures for T1D, including data updates
from Century Therapeutics (IPSC) for their genetically engineered beta islets designed for immune
evasion. We take this shifting sentiment at ADA26 to highlight increasing optimism for a true "holy
grail" immune evasive functional cure cell therapy for T1D. We see this as especially important for
ADA this yr as SANA works to file their IND and start their Ph1 trial for their hypoimmune stem cell
derived cell Tx, SC451, as early as 2026, VRTX expects to submit their BLA for VX-880 (iPSC derived
