May 2026. Hardlines spending is up 1.8% y/y vs. +0.6% in April, and spending was United States

Home improvement strongest in the Northeast
Spending at home improvement retailers decreased 1.4% y/y in May, vs. -1.1% in April,
per BAC aggregated credit and debit card data. Spending on housing-related services
was up 1.5% y/y in May vs. +3.7% y/y in April. Home improvement spending was Robert F. Ohmes, CFA
strongest in the Northeast (+3.0% y/y in May vs. +2.6% y/y in April) and weakest in the Research Analyst
