reinforcing prior guidance and the company’s New Frontier framework.
McCallion pointed to a supportive macro backdrop (low unemployment,
manageable inflation, wage growth that is keeping pace, a real estate cycle that
appears to be improving, and broadly stable credit conditions) and to results
tracking at or ahead of the five-year targets laid out in December 2024, which
include double-digit adjusted EPS growth, a 15-17% adjusted ROE ambition, a
100bp reduction in direct expense ratio over five years, and $25 billion-plus of
free cash flow.
Management continues to frame MetLife’s scale and diversification as the core
competitive advantage. McCallion highlighted a roughly balanced mix between
capital-light businesses and balance-sheet businesses, with Group Benefits, Latin
America, EMEA, and asset management on one side, and global retirement
across the U.S., U.K., and Japan on the other. The strategic logic is credible: the
company can compound through higher-ROE, lower-capital-intensity businesses
while still earning attractive spreads where it has balance-sheet and ALM
advantages.

McCallion began with a relatively constructive macro assessment. While
acknowledging uncertainty across jurisdictions, he pointed to several supportive
