The Technical Academy: Ten sessions all about technical strategy

Agenda Detail

8:00 - Foundations of Technical Strategy: How We Chart the Markets

After twenty years of applying technical analysis across market cycles, we begin by

defining technical strategy as we use it today. We outline its three core assumptions,

introduce a fourth, survey the landscape of technical disciplines, and walk through our

go‑to framework while addressing questions we hear most often.

9:00 - The Top Three Most Popular Indicators

“Which indicators should I use?” is the most common question we receive. While every

process is personal, markets have revealed their preference. Using empirical evidence,

we examine the three most widely used indicators—RSI, MACD and Bollinger Bands—

explaining their logic, strengths and weaknesses.

10:00 – Picking Tops, Bottoms and Remembering the Falling Knife

Price action often delivers the earliest signals by forming patterns that suggest a trend

changes or retraces. We analyze candlestick patterns such as hammers, shooting stars,

engulfing patterns, outside days and island reversals. We show their role in forming

larger patterns such as head‑and‑shoulders, double tops/bottoms and triangles.

11:00 – Contrary Thinking with Positioning and Sentiment Analysis

We shift from price to behavior. Pulling from BofA Global Research’s deep positioning

and sentiment data across rates, FX, equities and commodities, this session explores

how extremes in investor behavior often precede market turns. We discuss the

importance of knowing who is doing what and how we integrate them into both tactical

trades and strategic views. (Guests: Ralf Preusser, Michalis Rousakis, Meghan Swiber)

12:00 – Trend Following into Trend Exhaustion

Markets rarely speak through a single indicator.
