Primer: Summer & Conference Prep Pack

grocery panel, ROST/BURL/FIVE/AZO/GPC 1x1s.

3. Can tariff relief/rebates become a meaningful offset to energy pressure, and will

companies reinvest the benefit into price? We estimate that there are roughly $12bn of

potential tariff-related tailwinds across the group, with the key strategic question being

whether companies allow that benefit to flow through margins or reinvest it into value. In a

slower consumer backdrop, reinvestment in price could be a competitive weapon and a

demand stabilizer.

What to listen for: How much tariff relief, freight normalization, or cost giveback is flowing

into 2H plans? Are companies prioritizing margin recapture, price investment, promotions,

or a mix? Which categories are seeing the most rational competitive behavior, and where is

price/value becoming more aggressive?

Best forums: Walmart keynote, Amazon/agentic AI panel, WSM/LOW/SHW/ASO/FIVE/

TGT-adjacent discussions, Buyside Perspectives.

4. Is Walmart’s share-gain algorithm accelerating enough to justify renewed multiple

support? We added Walmart back to the Fab Five last week, given the stock’s YTD

underperformance, attractive relative valuation, traffic momentum, Walmart+ membership,

marketplace, retail media, and agentic AI opportunity. The conference has a direct Walmart

keynote, making this one of the highest-value sessions for the Broadlines/Hardlines debate.

What to listen for: What is the next leg of Walmart’s growth algorithm: core grocery share,

general merchandise stabilization, marketplace scale, retail media monetization,

membership, or AI-enabled productivity? How much of the margin upside is structural vs.

cyclical? Does Walmart intend to lean harder into EDLP if the consumer slows?
