However, in recent years, amid increased competition, the company had scaled back

its participation in new onshore projects in Saudi Arabia. Today’s announcement

marks Saipem’s first significant onshore award in the country since the 2022

developments.

Despite the challenging track record of recent years, the backdrop against which

Saipem is signing this contract appears much more supportive of protective terms

for contractors than it was in the pre-2022 period, from a macro, regional, and

company-specific perspective.
