FCC modernizes Disaster Information Reporting System with streamlined rules. The FCC voted May 20,

2026 to modernize its Disaster Information Reporting System, which collects communications outage

information before, during, and after emergencies. The new rules streamline reporting requirements

to allow providers to focus resources on service restoration during disasters. The rules direct theEQUITY FCC's Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau to improve the ability of filers to voluntarily submit

geographic information about service areas and locations of facilities that are out of service. The rules

establish mandatory DIRS reporting for public safety voice and broadband network operators on the

status of public safety network infrastructure and customer impact. (FCC)

Kinetic designates six communities as Gig-Ready with fiber expansions. Kinetic announced May 20,

2026 that six communities are officially recognized as Kinetic Gig-Ready Communities, meaning more

than 75% of homes now have access to multi-gig, next generation internet. The communities include

Jasper, Florida with 2,700 locations, Fairfax, Oklahoma with 900 locations, Texarkana, Texas with 37,000

locations, Kannapolis, North Carolina with 19,000 locations, Hazard, Kentucky with 8,900 locations, and

Dahlonega, Georgia with 13,000 locations.
