We hosted 30+ companies at our Biotech Private Company Symposium (see profiles of angela.kumirai@ubs.com
attending companies here and here). Overall, we thought that sentiment was upbeat, +1-212-713 1266
particularly given the robust M&A and IPO activity we have seen YTD (see inside for
detailed figures). We continue to view psychedelics as a catalyst rich space and an area
we think we could see growing strategic interest over the coming 1-2 yrs.
Our corporate VC panelists highlighted Superluminal Medicines (biotech developing
small molecules for cardiometabolic disease) and Zag Bio when we asked about a
portfolio company they thought the audience should be aware of. We profile
Superluminal Medicines and Zag Bio inside the report.
Below we outline our key takes from the conference:
Investors cautious on AI platforms: Across biotech, but particularly for AI drug
discovery companies, investor conviction is driven by clinical progress and assets,
not platform value. We think the bar to get conviction around a platform is high,
and we think value is better realized near-term through execution on a diversified
pipeline. However, we see potential acceleration of value accretion for companies
with AI platforms that become more efficient and reliable with more data.
