Internet - ASEAN: Sea & Grab in Taiwan: At interesting juncture: Rising relevance

Foodpanda in Taiwan

• Foodpanda continues to position itself as a food + grocery delivery platform in

Taiwan, not just a restaurant-delivery app. Its Taiwan site explicitly markets both

food delivery and grocery delivery, with categories across restaurants, takeaway and

fresh groceries. The company has been pushing grocery/ quick-commerce harder

through pandamart and broader fresh-grocery campaigns.

• Foodpanda is actively using grocery as a membership-acquisition and retention tool.

In May, pandapro members were offered fresh-grocery free delivery from NT$279

and weekly 30% off campaigns across popular retail channels, signaling that grocery

is becoming a core frequency driver.

• The platform is actively recruiting riders in May 2026 with new-partner task

bonuses up to NT$6,000 in northern Taiwan and equipment discounts or incentives

in selected central and southern regions. Foodpanda is also pushing self-pickup as a

parallel use case, likely to drive transaction frequency without delivery-cost burden

Uber in Taiwan

• Uber’s Taiwan strategy in 2026 is broader than food delivery: it is strengthening

mobility through the approved Crown Taxi acquisition while Uber Eats continues to

defend delivery through selection, membership, grocery / retail and service quality.

Taiwan’s Fair-Trade Commission approved Uber’s acquisition of Crown Taxi in

Jan’26

• Uber also changed Taiwan leadership in January 2026, appointing Cesar Molina

Leguia as Taiwan General Manager. Molina joined Uber in 2019, previously led Uber

Peru and Ecuador, expanded operations to nearly 50 new cities, and has more than

15 years of cross-border business, investment, legal and tech-sector experience.
