he main reasons investors view LatAm as

resilient. Energy and metals exposure provides a partial macro hedge, and several credits

benefit either through stronger export earnings, better terms of trade or sector-specific

price spreads. This was especially relevant in discussions around mining, petrochemicals

and ethanol-linked credits. However, the benefit is not universal. Higher oil is supportive

for some petrochemical spreads and exporters, but negative for airlines, consumers,

inflation expectations and any leveraged borrower relying on faster rate cuts.

Brazil illustrates this tension well. A stronger commodity backdrop can support GDP,

fiscal receipts and the currency, but it can also delay monetary easing if inflation

expectations deteriorate. That matters for corporate credit because many leveraged

issuers implicitly built their refinancing and deleveraging plans around lower local rates.

If rate relief is slower and the local credit market remains impaired, then the bridge for

stressed issuers becomes narrower and more dependent on asset sales, shareholder

support or liability management.

Local credit market stress is a funding issue, not just a mark-to-market issue

Several investors asked whether recent Brazilian stress is becoming systemic. Our view

is that the underlying credit problems remain issuer-specific, but the funding channel

has tightened. Local credit fund outflows, widening debenture spreads and reduced bank

appetite can create a pro-cyclical environment in which the weakest issuers lose access

first, then price action itself feeds rating pressure and investor redemptions. This is not

necessarily a broad solvency problem for Brazilian corporates, but it is a refinancing and
