Today’s Tidbits: Google’s new TPU cloud
venture & Meta’s AI restructuring
Industry Overview
Google planning to extend TPU reach with new venture 19 May 2026
Per the WSJ, Alphabet and Blackstone are planning to launch a new AI cloud company Equity
leveraging Google’s TPU infrastructure. The venture is expected to be majority-owned by United States
Blackstone, which will commit $5bn in equity capital while Google will provide the Justin Post
underlying hardware (including TPUs), along with software and services. The report Research Analyst
noted that the companies are targeting ~500MW of capacity by 2027 (for reference we BofAS+1 415 676 3547
estimate AWS at 16GW at year end 2025) and have already identified a pipeline of data justin.post@bofa.com
centers, some of which are already under construction. The new company will reportedly Nitin Bansal, CFA
use debt leverage to help fund investments. Our Take: The new venture could accelerate ResearchBofAS Analyst
ecosystem adoption and monetization of TPU capacity, a positive for Google. However, we +1 415 676 3551

wonder why TPU capacity sales through the new venture would be beneficial for Google vs
direct sales to customers. Possible positives include external funding commitments for TPU
capacity (preferable to internal funding?), and Google could see equity upside. For the
industry as a whole, the new venture could also increase debt-based funding of sector capex,
raising concerns on a potential sector bubble, and increase perceived competition vs
existing chip suppliers. We expect investor questions on Google’s financial commitments to

the venture.
