Chart of the Day. Yesterday the Dallas Fed posted its ‘Banking Conditions Survey’ of Eleventh

District banking executives, taken May 5–13. One of the questions asked was: “Over the past six

weeks, how has loan volume changed?” It saw 56% report an increase, 24% no change, and

20% report a decrease. The spread between those reporting an increase and those seeing a

decrease was 36%, and is graphed below over time. In addition to total loans, we display this

metric for the major loan buckets. Of note, for total loans, C&I, CRE and consumer this

metric stood at its highest level since mid-2022 while resi R/E was at its highest level since
