Q4: Solid Earnings & Robust Guidance for FY3/27
s
volume growth, particularly in can stock demand, which supported consolidated volume
expansion. Thailand also contributed to overseas volume growth (can stock demand),
consistent with ASEAN beverage packaging strength. However, Japan remains structurally
weaker, with domestic sales volumes declining slightly due to lower demand for aluminum
cans (linked to beverage price increases and lightweighting trends).
Middle-East tensions. Management expects the impact from the Middle East situation to
be about 20% of business profit, is factored into full-year forecasts, and explicitly highlights
escalating tensions as a source of macro uncertainty, mainly through rising resource and
energy prices and inflationary pressure. The direct link to UACJ is via aluminum input costs
and broader industrial cost inflation rather than direct exposure. In FY3/26, rising ingot prices
were actually supportive of revenue and earnings (through price pass-through), but going
forward, such volatility could compress margins if cost increases outpace pass-through or
demand weakens. Hence, Middle East tensions function as a double-edged factor—supportive
in inflationary environments but a risk to margins and demand stability.
Shareholders returns & B/S management. UACJ’s capital allocation reflects improving
financial strength alongside moderate shareholder returns enhancement. Equity increased to
¥384.9bn (+20.4% YoY), supported by earnings accumulation, while the equity ratio improved
to ~30.9%. Cash flow generation strengthened significantly, with operating cash flow rising
to ¥64.0bn (vs ¥9.1bn prior year), although this was partly offset by higher capex (¥59.5bn)
and increased borrowing.
