investment begins to flow through. Priced as of prior trading day's market close, EST (unless otherwise noted).
Base effects mask underlying momentum in diagnostics. Danaher is a
victim of its own success in respiratory testing. What was once a <$300M
sales item for its molecular diagnostics business has averaged $1.9B over
the past three years. Respiratory testing is inherently seasonal and variable;
the low-teens sales decline forecasted for 2026 (~100bps drag to total
Danaher growth) reflects year to year demand variability rather than any
structural demand deterioration.
The underlying diagnostics business continues to improve, absent
structural challenges in China. Danaher has been closing menu gaps in its
Beckman Coulter business (Hep B clearance in Q1 the latest), and as well
as its molecular diagnostics business. The Q1 FDA clearance of the Xpert GI
Panel marked Danaher's entry into the ~$2B multiplexed infectious disease
testing market, where we see strong right to win given its installed base of
>60,000 instruments.
Scope for further consistent capital deployment. We see continued
runway for Danaher to deploy capital inorganically in life sciences and
diagnostics. The upcoming Masimo acquisition in diagnostics should be
growth and margin accretive, and we see meaningful white space for
further consolidation in Life Sciences.
Valuation attractive at current relative trough. At ~0.9x, Danaher's relative
P/E vs the S&P 500 is at its lowest level over the past 5 years, a time where
