Comerica acquisition on track in early stages. Fifth Third closed the CMA acquisition on February

2, 2026, taking FITB one step closer to being a national middle-market commercial and retail bank.

FITB sought to get CMA retail customers reacquainted with their branches by running the first deposit

special in over a decade in the TX market. 300 new branches by 2030 in TX and SE markets can help

FITB grow retail share and get to critical mass, w/ cost savings from 75 MI branch closures.

Strategy. Fifth Third has positioned its strategy around building “deep, long-lasting relationships”

through a combined digital + physical model, most visibly via an accelerated retail expansion plan to

open 200+ branches over four years, focused largely in fast-growing Southeast markets. The company

frames this as a data-driven rollout, using proprietary tools (including a Market Strength Index and

geospatial analytics) to select markets and sites with “disciplined execution.” In parallel, it has leaned

into payments/treasury innovation—e.g., acquiring Rize Money to strengthen embedded payments

infrastructure and risk management capabilities delivered via API, reinforcing treasury management as

a growth and differentiation pillar.

Growth. Management’s growth narrative is anchored in (i) footprint expansion into higher-growth

geographies and (ii) scaling fee businesses tied to payments and wealth. In 1Q26 reporting, the bank

highlighted legacy consumer household growth of 3%, including 8% in the Southeast, and disclosed

LOIs for 81 Texas branch locations executed or in process, underscoring its push into new markets. It
