Executive Summary

We extend our systematic nowcasting framework to Australia and present real time Given the non trivial publication lags

nowcasts for two key macroeconomic indicators: Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) and the associated with official releases,

Labour Force (LF). These variables provide timely and complementary signals about the timely nowcasts can provide

directly influence interest rate expectations and monetary policy decisions, while labour to investors.

Nowcasting Australian inflation presents unique challenges due to the recent transition

from a quarterly CPI to a comprehensive monthly CPI, first released for the October 2025

reference month. While the new framework substantially improves the timeliness and

informational content of inflation data, it also introduces greater short term volatility

and complicates real time inference, particularly in the presence of mixed frequency

signals and evolving seasonal patterns. Our approach is designed to explicitly account

for this regime change. We combine monthly and quarterly inflation measures within a

unified modeling framework that allows each CPI vintage to load independently on

latent macroeconomic factors, while preserving a consistent point in time structure for

historical backtesting. Overall, this framework delivers robust and timely estimates of

Australian macroeconomic conditions while remaining flexible to ongoing changes in

statistical methodology.
