Lower copays in pharmacy can help change access
TNDM also discussed the new mechanism of copays in pharmacy and how patients can
move from DME where they pay $1,000 to get on a pump if they’ve met their deductible
while in pharmacy TNDM can use copay assistance to help get the copay down and with
PayGo copay now goes from whatever prior out of pocket cost to $0 for the pump and
all the patient has to think about is paying for their supplies over time. Additionally,
TNDM says pharmacy also has deductibles, but the deductible impact has been more
pronounced in DME. TNDM says being in the same channel as the CGM will also help
patients meet their deductibles more quickly and that TNDM will gain more experience
as new PayGo model ramps.
Pharmacy removing cost barriers to pump adoption
TNDM says 60% of people are not using pumps today with a big piece of that due to
cost. Pharmacy can remove that barrier which can make a big difference in people’s
ability to move forward with pump therapy. TNDM also noted that the market has
somewhat been divided between tubed and tubeless category. TNDM is stepping into
the tubeless category this year with Mobi Tubeless saying it can make a significant
difference in terms of that opportunity base. TNDM says long term goal is double digit
growth for the business and therefore needs to return to real strength in driving more
people to TNDM for pump therapy from MDI (growing the market) with pharmacy and
new products (patch technology) as the key drivers.
