Residential: Metricon completes homes in three days using prefabrication.

Metricon has built two three-bedroom homes in just 20 days in a pilot program,

using prefabricated components which were made in a factory and transported to

site for assembly. The homes were built at Stockland's Mt. Atkinson project in

Truganina, 30kms West of the Melbourne CBD. Metricon noted, however, that

prefabrication made more sense for regional work than in metropolitan areas due

to availability of skilled labour. The prefab components Metricon used for the two

homes were made in China and supplied by Signex, a prefab technology company

Data Centres: Firmus tries to fast track 2GW+ of SA data centres. Firmus is

looking to accelerate the development of data centres in South Australia with

state government support, circumventing the local government planning process.

Firmus is planning a 1GW factory in Tailem Bend, a regional town 100km east of

Adelaide, and has also proposed a 1300MW factory in Stirling North, a small town

near Port Augusta. South Australia has determined that data centres are “essential

infrastructure”, which means they are reviewed by the state’s planning minister

rather than local councils. This follows delays and community backlash for Firmus'
