The tariffs are scheduled to take effect on August 19 and cover over 400 goods; Landry Moorenotable Building Products included are Portland Cement (other than White Cement),

Wood Panels, LVL, Furniture, and Vinyl Tile Floor Coverings. The duties will be landry.moore@citi.com

imposed under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 and will apply to covered goods

regardless of whether they are covered under USMCA; products already subject to

Section 232 tariffs – notably Lumber - will be excluded.

We’ve previously examined the impact of tariffs to Homebuilders & Building Product

categories; the NAHB estimates that $184B worth of goods were used in the

construction of new housing in 2023, with $13B (7%) of those goods imported from

outside the US. Canada is the third largest country when measured by import value

(8% of total value), ranking behind China (27%) & Mexico (11%). Goods used in

construction with the highest percentage of import dependence include computers,

construction machinery, electrical components, and appliances. More “traditional”

building products with high import dependence include Lumber, Cabinets, Lighting,

Plumbing, Flooring, Gypsum used in Drywall, and Bedding; epoxy resins and MDI are
