BNS; SLF: Lightworks, Scotiabank, Sun Life and TELUS launch AI Consortium to jointly build

critical AI control infrastructure in Canada (CNW) Yesterday, Lightworks, Scotiabank, Sun Life and

TELUS launched a cross-industry AI Consortium aimed at building shared infrastructure to safely

deploy and scale artificial intelligence across highly regulated environments in Canada. The initiative

brings together major institutions to address common challenges such as governance, operational

control and integration across platforms, allowing them to pool engineering expertise and co-develop

mission-critical AI systems. A central component is the Agentic Control Plane (ACP), already operating

in production and processing more than two trillion tokens per month, providing oversight and

control across AI models and workflows while supporting regulatory compliance. The consortium

model allows members to co-create intellectual property while retaining ownership and usage rights

individually. Future initiatives include an AI Operations Center to enhance performance and resilience,

and an AI Token Exchange to optimize access to AI infrastructure. The collaboration seeks to reduce

duplication, control costs and accelerate responsible AI adoption, while strengthening Canada’s

competitiveness and fostering sovereign AI capabilities.

Statistics Canada reports merchandise trade surplus grew to $4.2B in May (The Canadian Press)

Yesterday, The Canadian Press reported that Statistics Canada said Canada’s merchandise trade

surplus rose to $4.2B in May, up from $3.4B in April, driven by higher exports that reached a record

level.
