through early March running at over 30k per month on average since last Sep (Fig 1), Roque Montero
putting them on track on annualized basis to come close to those registered during the Strategist

deportations targeted by US authorities, although it does exclude those who are self-
deporting and those who are granted “voluntary departure” by an immigration judge
(DHS has stated in press releases that self-deportations exceed 2 million since Trump
took office, but other estimates put them between 200k-400k in 2025).
The step-up in deportations mirrors increased arrests by ICE. At the beginning of
Trump’s second term, roughly half of migration-related arrests involved individuals
already facing criminal charges (which include violent and drug-related crimes, but also
immigration and traffic violations). However, starting in mid-2025 most ICE arrests have
