What you need to know:
Yesterday, CREA released home sales activity data in Canada. Home sales activity jumped•
5.5% in May, driving sales-to-new-listings ratio higher to 49.2% and months of inventory lower
to 4.8. With seller's and buyer's expectations increasingly aligned, home sale prices have
also stabilized in May, rising 1.0% m/m. As highlighted by CREA, the handoff from May into
June is typically the busiest time of the year. Combined with lower expectations of rate cuts
in 2026 and new supply drying up, home sales activity and price momentum could carry
into the summer. For more details, see our note "Housing Market Chartbook: Will the Spring
Momentum Carry into the Summer?".
On the macro front, Statistics Canada will release May New Housing Price Index today, May•
RMPI and IPPI tomorrow, and April Retail Sales data on Friday.
