VZ Simplicity Plans May Contribute to Broader Pricing Shift Within the

Industry

Verizon announced a new rate plan architecture – Simplicity Plans, introduced a new

loyalty program, and introduced new converged rate plans VerizonOne. Our initial

reaction is that this is a very substantial shift in its rate plan pricing strategy for a few

reasons that we unpack below. We had the opportunity to catch up with Verizon’s IR

and share our initial reaction and learnings. Verizon also reaffirmed its guidance for Michael Rollins, CFAAC

2026 indicating “Today’s announcement is anticipated to be accretive to revenue +1-212-816-1116

and EBITDA growth and drive continued churn reduction. There is no change to the michael.rollins@citi.com

company’s 2026 financial guidance.”

While the rate plan headlines look aggressive for Verizon, the pivot to remove

subsidies from these offers can help balance the economics for Verizon and the

category. While stocks could trade lower on the risk of greater rate plan price

competition, we find counter-balancing factors to take an initial neutral view on

today’s announcement and pricing direction for telco stocks (VZ, T, TMUS).

Verizon’s new headline pricing can be a positive catalyst to improve its sales and

retention in the market. Simpler per-unit economics and should improve Verizon’s

competitiveness relative to the headline offers from cable and wireless competitors.

Importantly, we believe this move by Verizon can push competitors in the same

direction to reformat rate plans in a similar fashion.
