strongest-performing categories in personal luxury goods, growing an estimated 2-4% to

around €17 billion in 2025 despite the wider luxury slowdown, reported Vogue Business

yesterday. Bain & Co. said eyewear has been a key growth driver since 2023, supported by

fashion adoption, prescription eyewear demand and emerging smart-glasses technology, while

Euromonitor forecasts the global eyewear market will reach $171 billion in 2026. Industry

executives highlighted product personalisation, omnichannel retail and international expansion

as key growth drivers, with EssilorLuxottica, Safilo and Marcolin continuing to invest in

innovation, distribution and premium brand partnerships.

China youth unemployment falls for third straight month in June. China’s unemployment

rate for 16-24-year-olds excluding students fell to 14.9% in June from 15.6% in May, marking a

third consecutive monthly decline, while the overall urban jobless rate eased to 5.0%, Reuters

reported yesterday. The National Bureau of Statistics attributed the improvement to stronger

seasonal hiring across services sectors, including retail, hospitality and transportation.

However, officials warned labour market pressures remain as a record 12.7 million students are

due to graduate this summer, with youth unemployment likely to rise in July and August amid

soft domestic demand and external economic uncertainty.
