Last week, we detailed the recent momentum of AI-powered coding tools and subsequent

impact on the pace of newly written software and applications, which we argue is clearly

accelerating as evidenced by recent GitHub commit activity (see U.S. Software: rAImo's AI

Newsletter #115: Unpacking the AI-Driven Software Explosion, 6/22/26). As we discussed, these

new applications will still need underlying databases and should increase demand for the

underlying hardware and software infrastructure layers, but naturally, the exponential growth in

AI tools is leading to quickly rising costs for organizations leveraging genAI technology. We

believe the value of AI and LLMs are compelling and only growing as new models (such as

OpenAI's GPT-5.6 model released last week) continue to raise the bar on model performance

and capabilities. However, there is also growing momentum around the idea that not all tasks

need the most advanced (and expensive) models and managing AI model costs more efficiently

through software advancements.
