Finastra sells core banking business to focus on Payments and Lending (link)

Finastra has agreed to sell its Universal Banking (UB) division, its global core banking

software business, to private equity firm Pollen Street Capital, as part of a broader effort

to streamline its portfolio and sharpen its focus on higher-growth Payments and Lending

segments. The UB business provides core banking technology (including account

management, deposits, lending, payments and treasury functionality) and serves over

150 financial institutions across more than 100 countries. Under the deal, UB will

operate as a standalone entity backed by Pollen Street, with planned investment to

accelerate product development (including data and AI capabilities) and support

customer modernisation. For Finastra, the divestiture marks a continued shift away from

broad banking platforms toward a more focused fintech model, following the sales of its

Treasury and Capital management business (May 2025) and US mid-market segment

(June 2026). Overall, as it relates to our coverage universe, we view the transaction as

reinforcing demand for specialist banking software assets, while highlighting conviction

in core banking modernisation from private equity. We would argue this screens as a

modest positive for Temenos and other core providers (i.e., FIS)
