not a just a counter cyclical push by integrators, and that the long sales cycle of these markets is
finally paying dividends in 2026.
Automotive markets appear mixed with some integrators seeing growth, but for others not at
all, but this was an improvement versus last year's show where automotive was the most
frequently mentioned weak market.
For the first time we heard of anecdotal evidence from integrators of strong demand for
automation RFQs from the defense sector. A representative from a mid-sized integrator (~$260M
sales, ~700 FTEs) provided one of the most compelling anecdotes of the show. He said he met
with a prospective customer in the defense sector who was seeking expedited RFQs for 52
manufacturing lines at ~$5M each, to be deployed at multiple greenfield locations in the U.S.
Chinese competition appeared similar to last year in terms of overall presence though we note
their offerings continue to move up the value chain. We noted fewer autonomous mobile robot
(AMR) companies present than last year, though numerous provides of AGVs and autonomous
fork lifts.
Humanoid robots were present in a dedicated section at AUTOMATE. We observed at least a
dozen different suppliers predominantly from China. While the products themselves were
intriguing, the demonstrations were underwhelming when compared to the cobots and AMRs,
where demos included actual tasks required in manufacturing such as bin-picking, inspection
and assembly.
