Strategic options for Sanofi/Regeneron

We think that with the potential for a serious commercial competitor entering the market with a

differentiated product, the commercial risk for Dupixent’s life cycle management has increased

significantly. With a lack of visibility on which pipeline assets might replace Dupixent’s position,

whilst leveraging the moat in terms of sales force, rebate walls, and knowhow, the pressure to

identify next generation pipeline drugs is likely to increase for both the companies. We think

there are three strategic responses likely from these two players:

◆ Accelerate development of existing pipeline assets: Whilst this might be the preferred

route for the companies, the market is unlikely to be convinced by the potential of success

of the strategy.

◆ Acquire assets in adjacent therapy areas: Both companies might be able to identify

assets in immunology (potentially from Chinese Biotech pipelines) in a bid to find the next

blockbuster. This is a low cost option initially and likely to remain a core focus.

◆ Put their resources together: If both the companies were to align their life cycle

management strategy with the Dupixent JV, the market might be a bit more convinced that

Sanofi/Regeneron might be able to sustain the moat. Moreover, an asset with a profile like

Zumilokibart might be a lot more valuable to these incumbents than their competitors trying

to enter these indications.
