Weekly news roundup

FCC's AWS-3 spectrum auction surpasses $3.1B after 11 days. The Federal Communications

Commission's AWS-3 spectrum auction reached more than $3.1B in aggregate bids after 11 days of

bidding, surpassing the $2.9B threshold that would have required EchoStar to pay a penalty under

an agreement reached with the regulator before the auction started June 2. The auction offers 200EQUITY licenses in AWS-3 bands 1695-1710MHz, 1755-1780MHz, and 2155-2180MHz that can boost 5G in

targeted geographic areas, with most licenses originally acquired by two smaller Dish Network (now

EchoStar) affiliates at auction in 2014 before receiving $3.3B in small bidder discounts the FCC later

deemed ineligible. The auction completed 48 rounds in 11 days with 17 qualified bidders including AT&T,

EchoStar, T-Mobile, and Verizon. (Light Reading)
