LNG Mini Conference - Implications from the

Iran War in Focus

On Friday, we hosted a virtual LNG conference with expert speakers from

prospective US LNG liquefaction developers, EPC contractors, and LNG industry

lawyers & consultants. Overall, sentiment was positive on the continued growth

prospects for the sector and the key role the US plays within global LNG

markets. Within are the key themes from the event.

(1) Iran War Ramifications. Among our experts there was no consensus on when the Straits will

reopen, repairs completed to the damaged Qatari trains, and growth from the Qatari expansions

online; however, our speakers largely agreed that the conflict will have a significant long-term

impact. The risk profile for Qatari LNG has increased and this will likely remain after the war ends.

We expect Middle East producers will look for alternative export routes where possible.

(2) US LNG Growth. Against this backdrop, expert participants were constructive on the prospects

of further US LNG growth, despite investor concerns over a potential oversupply at the end of the

decade. This view was reinforced by the recent FIDs of Commonwealth LNG & Delfin LNG. While it

is worth noting that it is in the interest of US liquefaction players to present continued strong growth

prospects for the sector, we see tailwinds with Asian diversification supporting strong contracting

demand, regulatory stability, security of supply, and resource depth. However, competition between

prospective projects remains fierce as most have the same key features & cost profile.
