The I-77 South managed lanes project potentially left at a dead end

Key points:

The I-77 South managed lanes project in North Carolina has received a big blow in the shape of adverse votes from Charlotte's

municipality and the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO). With these votes, we understand that

local representatives have effectively left the project at a dead end, making it unlikely that it will be revived in its original form.

The opposition seems essentially explained by social backlash against dynamic tolling in the area and concerns about pollution.

Acciona, ACS, Ferrovial and Sacyr were part of the four consortia shortlisted by the North Carolina Department of Transport

(NCDOT) for the I-77 South project in the State's most populated city, Charlotte.

This is a relevant development as it seems to eliminate one project from the current six-project managed lanes pipeline and could

raise concerns about potential hurdles in other projects. We believe that this pipeline is most relevant in the equity stories of

Sacyr and Ferrovial.
