TechTrek Talks Takeaways w/ Island CEO

USA | Software EquityMayResearch12, 2026

We hosted a fireside chat with Island CEO Mike Fey for the inaugural TechTrek

Talks virtual series on Mon. 5/11. Our key takeaways: 1) Mythos is driving .

cyber reprioritization after some rationalization, 2) AI makes platforms more

important for customers and vendors, and 3) Quantum is still early but could

arrive sooner than expected. Island is an enterprise platform for modern SASE,

secure browser, and secure AI access.

The Island Enterprise Platform. Island's a platform for SASE, secure browser, & secure AI access.

Island grew out of the standardization of consumer browsers on Chromium, starting as a browser

for knowledge workers incorporating the supporting IT stack & embedding security. It started with

BYOD & 3rd-party use cases replacing VDI & has recently had success moving into SASE, SaaS

security, & AI protection as evidenced by its 100%+ growth rate & nearly 90% gross margin.

Expanding Beyond Browser. Island gets budget from three sources: 1) Lines of business,

particularly customer-facing that need faster secure access (~1/3 of Island's business), 2) CIOs

looking to get off VDI and add resilience/AI enablement, & 3) CISOs looking to simplify the tech stack

& implement last mile control. Island often starts as a solution for contractors, providing savings

that can then be reinvested in Island's SASE and AI protection (nearly 100 customers and "sizable"

ARR), which also has lead to competitive displacements (noted strong early traction in SASE). Island

views its differentiation as presentation layer visibility + no need to backhaul data to data center,

which provides a low latency/scalable platform (positioned for agentic world).

Cyber Reprioritized in an AI World. Mr.
