UK government plans to triple surplus food redistribution. UK prime minister Keir Starmer

has announced a new national programme to triple the volume of surplus food redistributed,

aimed at tackling food waste and food poverty, reported The Grocer yesterday. The strategy,

developed after a Downing Street summit with retailers, manufacturers and charities, will

involve industry and government working with NGOs and social enterprises, build on the King’s

Coronation Food Project, and include renewed efforts on food waste data and potential

mandatory reporting, alongside a consumer education campaign backed by industry.^

John Lewis to launch new own-brand ‘Platter’ café brand. John Lewis will roll out a new

own-brand café and restaurant concept, Platter John Lewis, replacing “The Place To Eat” across

32 cafés as part of a multi-million-pound investment in in-store dining, reported Retail Week

yesterday. The first refurbished sites will reopen this month, with Chichester, Reading and

Oxford Street first to be upgraded, and a flagship restaurant due to open on London’s Oxford

Street in early August. All 32 cafés are expected to be rebranded by end-2027, operated in

partnership with Benugo. This forms part of the partnerships £800m multi-year investment into

John Lewis brand, stores and customer experience.*

launched a national digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising proposition, entering the UK
