IdeaMtax options (FreeTaxUSA) and AI-native entrants (Prime Meridian,

currently free) pressure TurboTax across both units and average revenue

per consumer (ARPC). Unit risk is most acute among simple DIY filers,

including first-time filers, W-2-only returns, and price-sensitive

consumers where a cheaper filing workflow can provide solid ROI. On

ARPC, the gap is meaningful: FreeTaxUSA screens closer to a $12 to $25

estimated ARPC range, versus TurboTax DIY closer to $90 to $115+,

raising concern lower-cost alternatives could pressure TurboTax’s

premium pricing umbrella over time.

° Our View: While acknowledging risk to both units and ARPC from the

price gap, we believe Intuit may sustain DIY dollar share as TurboTax

monetizes more than form-fill software. Free and lower-cost options

have existed for years, yet TurboTax has continued to benefit from

consumer trust, prior-year continuity, W-2 / 1099 imports, integrated

state and federal workflows, refund visibility, brand awareness, and

access to expert help when a return becomes more complex. This expert

backstop matters even for DIY filers, as many consumers may still prefer

to file themselves but value the option to escalate if needed. With DIY

still representing ~$3B of revenue, the key F3Q proof point is dollar-

share stability, not acceleration, as even a durable DIY base gives

TurboTax Live and Full Service more room to carry the growth

algorithm.
