BHV Marais revamp faces staff and supplier unease amid sharp space reduction. BHV

Marais, the department store where Shein operates a physical store in Paris, is undergoing a

multi-year transformation that has sharply reduced its trading space and strained relations with

staff and suppliers, prompting public criticism and concern over its financial position, reported

Le Parisien on Wednesday. Owner Société des grands magasins said up to 60% of the Paris

department store’s sales area is being sold as part of a redevelopment agreed with landlord

Brookfield, which is investing around €120m, in order to free up commercial space to obtain a

rent reduction. Management expects the first phase to be completed in autumn, with the

project "part of a tight schedule until 2027". Employees and unions have said they fear that the

brand will move towards a standardised offer, closer to a shopping center than a Parisian

department store, with one employee saying: "Look around you, there's nothing left, it won't go

back to the way it was before. We're fed up".
